Boost to coastal tourism

Tue 20/11/07 - Flemish Tourism Minister Geert Bourgeois (Flemish nationalist) has announced extra cash for a series of projects on the coast.
In all 2 million euros is now being released as part of the second Coastal Action Plan.

The projects that are being funded all have to include a high creativity content. Mr Bourgeois wants to involve the private sector thanks to the use of private and public funding.The third edition of the Beaufort art project can count on continued funding. The project allows artists to exhibit their work along the coast.Cash is also being earmarked for new projects.These include an i-pod walking route in the Zwin nature reserve in Knokke.The audio guides will provide visitors with information about the nature reserve and the entire Zwin area.

The use of the bicycle along the coast will also be promoted.


People will be able to take the tram along the coast and hop on a bike where they wish.Tourism Minister Bourgeois is also releasing cash, 450,000 euros, for more public toilets and showers on the beach.Mr Bourgeois believes that beach clubs can also play a vital role in giving the hospitality industry on the coast a boost.Next year a further 2 million euros will be released for new project
