Tue 18/12/07 - On Monday, Belgian jenever (gin) received geographical recognition by the European Union.
The designation 'Belgian jenever' and 'Belgian grain jenever' and origin names such as Balegemse jenever, Hasselt jenever, O' de Flander and Peket de Wallonie are now protected names world-wide.

The appellations were approved Monday by the European Council of Ministers. The names 'young' and 'old' jenever were also given protection. The Belgian Federation of Wine and Spirits is happy with the recognition. According to the federation, geographic recognition of regional product names is becoming more important in the framework of the World Trade Organisation. It also offers extra quality and commercial guarantees. Every year some 8 million litres of jenever are sold in Belgium. The federation hopes that the EU recognition will boost sales.

Boost to coastal tourism
Tue 20/11/07 - Flemish Tourism Minister Geert Bourgeois (Flemish nationalist) has announced extra cash for a series of projects on the coast.
In all 2 million euros is now being released as part of the second Coastal Action Plan.

The projects that are being funded all have to include a high creativity content. Mr Bourgeois wants to involve the private sector thanks to the use of private and public funding.The third edition of the Beaufort art project can count on continued funding. The project allows artists to exhibit their work along the coast.Cash is also being earmarked for new projects.These include an i-pod walking route in the Zwin nature reserve in Knokke.The audio guides will provide visitors with information about the nature reserve and the entire Zwin area.

The use of the bicycle along the coast will also be promoted.
People will be able to take the tram along the coast and hop on a bike where they wish.Tourism Minister Bourgeois is also releasing cash, 450,000 euros, for more public toilets and showers on the beach.Mr Bourgeois believes that beach clubs can also play a vital role in giving the hospitality industry on the coast a boost.Next year a further 2 million euros will be released for new project

Fan la caminada inaugural de la ruta senderista els 3 Monts
Unes 300 persones van participar diumenge 6 de maig en la caminada inaugural de la ruta senderista els 3 Monts entre els municipis de Sant Llorenç Savall i Mura. La ruta uneix els parcs naturals del Montseny i Sant Llorenç del Munt i l'Obac amb la muntanya de Montserrat.

Autor: Consell Comarcal del Vallès OrientalAquest projecte turístic de senderisme que té com objectiu vincular els traçats amb els recursos turístics (allotjament, restauració, patrimoni, etc.) de cada una de les comarques per on passa per generar activitat econòmica. La ruta permet el contacte directe i respectuós amb la natura, el descobriment del patrimoni local i l'entorn natural i la pràctica d'esports a l'aire lliure. El 21 de juny tindrà lloc la inauguració oficial d'aquest projecte al Palau Robert de Barcelona i properament tindrà pàgina web i s'editarà una guia. Diumenge 6 de maig, els primers participants van sortir des del camp de futbol de Sant Llorenç Savall a les dos quarts de nou del matí i els prop de 16 quilòmetres de l'etapa es van fer amb unes de 5 hores de mitjana. El bon temps i les bones temperatures van afavorir l'alta participació i van permetre mostrar uns paisatges en ple esclat primaveral: la Vall d'Horta i el Marquet de les Roques, la font del Llor, la Mola i el Montcau, i unes fantàstiques vistes panoràmiques de la plana vallesana i la muntanya de Montserrat. A l'arribada al bonic poble de Mura els participants van poder reposar forces a la zona de pícnic on els esperava una botifarrada popular per, més tard, ser retornats al punt d'origen amb un servei d'autocars habilitat a l'efecte. La ruta dels 3 Monts està impulsada conjuntament pel Consell Comarcal i el Consorci de Turisme del Vallès Oriental, el Consorci de Turisme del Vallès Occidental, el Consorci per a la Promoció Turística de les Valls del Montcau, el Consorci de Formació i Iniciatives Bages Sud i el Patronat de la Muntanya de Montserrat.
